US hands in Iran

Iran is in turmoil after the presidential election.
Supporters of defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi were arrested after sowing havoc in the streets.
They claimed Mousavi was cheated by reelectionist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad is a known anti-United States leader.
If the US is backing Musavi, then the more the 70 million Iranians should hate the Americans.
This is not the first time the US is intruding in the political life of Iran.

We, Filipinos, were also once fooled by the Americans.
Remember, Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the revolutionary government against the Spaniards.

Pacquiao should fight Mayweather not Cotto

I saw the fight of Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey and the Puerto Rican has devastating hands, maybe heavier than Pound for Pound King Manny Pacquaio.

I agree with trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao should not be pitted against Cotto even in a catch weight.

So, Pacquaio has to wait for the winner of the July fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez, perhaps the last Mexican standing for the Filipino pugilist.

Although, Mayweather is a dull fighter, maybe Pacquaio's aggressiveness will make the fight exciting.

Besides, the fight with Mayweather will settle the issue as to who is the real Pound for Pound King. -30-

Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquaio made us Filipinos proud again before the eyes of the entire world when he personally received last Friday night his second Best Fighter award from the Boxing Writers Association of American in New York City.

We all now know the drama before Pacquiao travelled hastily to catch the evening event.

Once again the Americans were in awe of a Filipino who made boxing in America and in the world an exciting sports with his string of victories against Antonio Barrera, Eric Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar dela Hoya and lately Ricky Hatton.

America is greatful to Pacquiao who amidst the economic slowdown brings tourists in Las Vegas to watch his fights.

Boxing writers all over America could not let the month pass without writing a piece about Pacquaio.

In the internet, you will find articles in all boxing Websites about Pacquiao.

In the write ups about the upcoming fights of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto, Pacquio is always mentioned. Even those who are still searching for opponents like Shane Mosley announce their willingness to fight Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is indeed the current epicenter of boxing world.

We Filipinos just hope and pray Pacquiao will be guided accordingly so as he would continue to be an inspiration to all of us. -30-

Ninoy Aquino

Bakit hanggang ngayon hindi pa nadedeklarang National Hero ng gobyerno si Ninoy Aquino?

Hindi dahil si Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ay kalaban ni dating Pangulong Cory Aquino, ang asawa ni Ninoy.

Ayon kay Peter Uckung, senior historian ng National Historical Institute, pinagaaralan pa kung si Ninoy nga isang "Bayani". Pero inamin niya na marami sa mga Filipino ay kinikilala na si Ninoy na bayani dahil ang pagpatay sa kanya sa tarmac ay naging "unifiying force" para magkaisa ang mga Filipino para patalsikin sa Malacanang ang diktador na si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos.

"Para makunsidera na bayani kailangan sumailalim sa masusing pananaliksik ang kandidato sa "National Hero". Kailangan malaman at mapatunayan namin na hindi isang corrupt ang tao," ani Uckung sa aking panayam.

Ang proseso ng NHI ay kahawig rin pala ng Vatican sa pagpili ng santo.

Tama nga, pano mo masasabi na national hero eh kung corrupt naman. Mabuti naman at naisip ito ng NHI na kailangan "walang bahid ng korupsyon" ang isang itatalagang "National Hero".

Kaya kayo sa Senado at Kamara, marami sa inyo, kung hindi lahat, ay kailanman man hindi maitutiring na "national hero".

Alam ba ninyo na si Pangulong Arroyo ang nagdeklara ng August 21 na isang holiday bilang pagkilala sa kabayanihan ni Ninoy? -30-
